BMC: An All Goose College

1:44 PM

It was the week after spring break; I was feeling refreshed and ready to attack the rest of the semester. I came to campus and there were geese everywhere. Every year it's like this, they migrate and hang out on the lawn for a couple of weeks; their yearly mission. They all had blank stares as they continued to eat stuff from the grass and move together to their next pooping destination. I took photos of the geese as practice, but when I looked at the photos later I began to laugh. As a joke to myself, I pretended the geese were the students here instead of us. The funny thing is, when I thought about it that way, the photos didn't look that much different than the photos I took of the students. Students held blank stares as they moved forward; everyone was just trying to survive the rest of the semester. They all looked like the geese on the lawn. It was weird being the only one feeling refreshed and not on auto-pilot.

It's hard to actually feel relaxed for once while others are still stressed. You wanna be there for them in their time of stress, but their stress becomes your stress and that's not what you're truly feeling. Your friends start to resent you for being so relaxed because they want to also feel relaxed. You become the one who "doesn't understand" and that's a weird spot to be in. I've been on the other side a couple times I think, but I try to maintain distance in order to avoid others feeling that way. But that's not always the answer. It also gets a little lonely.

To get my mind off this I've been going on walks, playing games, and focusing on my school work. The end is near for this semester so that's what's keeping me going. I have a job out of college, I'm taking control of my finances, I have someone in my life who is so supportive and amazing in every way, and the temperature is finally getting warmer!!! Lots of sunshine makes me very happy. K and I have also been doing the 30 Day Minimalist Challenge via Into-mind.com. I'm incorporating a more minimalist lifestyle into my life and I love every minute I focus on it. As a college student its hard to be minimalistic with all the things you need to have and all the work, but I think practicing little bits of the lifestyle has saved me. There are less things in my room (which means less to bring back home), more single tasking, and really making room for more good things. Less is more, right?

This post was a bit of real talk but there are definitely positives happening. Sometimes you just need somewhere to write and someone to talk to. The next post will be about my trip to Washington DC!
